What I love about Kids Ocean Day is bringing students to the beach not just for a day outside, but to truly engage with the environment. By actively participating and sharing their message of conservation, students experience the power of their own voice and their role in protecting the places they love.

San Francisco Team
Marine Science Institute (MSI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring environmental stewardship through hands-on learning and exploration of San Francisco Bay ecosystems. For nearly five decades, MSI has connected young people and their families to the Bay through immersive, science-rich experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, and deepen a sense of responsibility for our natural world.
Kids Ocean Day is a natural extension of MSI’s mission. Through this powerful, joy-filled event, students don’t just learn about the ocean and climate change, they become part of the message. By creating large-scale artwork on the beach, children experience firsthand how their individual actions contribute to something much bigger than themselves. The result is both visually stunning and emotionally impactful, reinforcing the idea that collective action matters. At MSI, we believe meaningful learning happens when kids can touch, explore, ask questions, and feel connected to place. Kids Ocean Day embodies that philosophy by blending art, science, and environmental advocacy in a way that is accessible, hopeful, and empowering for young people of all backgrounds.Year after year, Kids Ocean Day reminds us that when children are given the space to express their care for the planet, they rise to the occasion with creativity, compassion, and courage. MSI is honored to be part of an event that amplifies youth voices and inspires communities to protect the ocean they love.
